My garden is finally almost finished. A few more rows of cabbage and roots are all it needs and then I can rest for a while. I made a bed for the napa cabbage and the bok choy while the rest are either in rows or hills. I am hoping it will rain every now and then to assure us of good harvest. I have a few favorites which hopefully will do good so I can feast on them in a few months. It is hard work, gardening is, but its rewards are well worth the effort. I am happy to be able to do a garden this year.

We were cleaning the yard the other day when we found several treasures in it. One is an arrow that one of the kids must have played with and two others were printed golf balls which were both fairly new. How they ended up in our yard knowing that the neighbors are far away is beyond us but the little man loves them. He has been playing with them since we gave the balls to him. He said that now he needs a golf club so he can play his game of golf. He knows about golf from his nintendo wii game. I told him to wait because if we are lucky we might just find a golf club in the yard the next time we clean it. I doubt it will happen though but it was still worth to say just to see the reaction on the little man’s face. I know somebody will be going to the store to get his son a golf club soon. At least we already have the balls. And too, we are lucky he did not ask for a bow for the arrow, lol.

The house that the husband bought does not have ceiling fans. Not one. He did tell me that the lighting fixtures in the kitchen, living room, and the master bedroom is made to where one can put in ceiling fans in those areas. When I asked if we will use ceiling fans he said no. Too bad because I would have preferred tropical ceiling fans over the air conditioner. I get cold really quick and when the temperature drops a bit I am no longer comfortable. It has to be just right, not cold but not hot either. And fans would have been the perfect way to do it. Unfortunately, somebody does not like fans because he said they are a lot of work to clean. So I am stuck with having to deal with the AC which he always sets to 69 degrees when it is warm outside because him and his kids do not like hot, at all. I am outnumbered 3 to 1 so I will just have to shut up and bear it, lol. I guess somebody will be running outside the house to warm up a bit on hot summer days. Just a few minutes at a time mind you because this somebody does not like it too hot either.

The garden is ready to till. If we can find a good tiller to use. The husband said we cannot rent a plow because he has seen some limestone on the property and he wants to avoid incidents like the tractor tearing up. So that is scratched. That leaves us with either a tiller or doing it the traditional way, by hands. I am not using my hands to plow a garden. Not even for a promise of sweet potato tops or eggplants. No way, sir! So it leaves us with one option, the tiller. We bought one a few months back, used it one time and it broke. I mean, the handle is broken where the weld was at, the motor (or joint? I am not sure what it was) was tore up so we decided to return it but the store will not take it back. We were told they will return it to the manufacturer and let them fix it, should they decide it cannot be fixed then they will send a ticket to the store to which we will be called and then refunded the money we spent to buy the tiller. Quite a run-around but we let it be because there was nothing we can do short of making a scene at the store. We will not get it back for two weeks more or less, but we are leaning on more considering what went on at the store. We borrowed the SIL’s tiller but it was not good, the tines are broken it only leaves scratch marks on the dirt. So pathetic. We can rent but it is expensive so we might just wait for our tiller to come back to us. On the upside, the onion sets are on the ground and I planted four sets of Marigold alongside them. We hope that the plants that are in a plant bed will bear with us for this delay.

I do not like to be around people who smoke. No, I don’t care if people smoke, I just don’t want to be around them. The reason? I don’t like to smell cigarette or tobacco smoke. It is not inhaling the smoke that I am worried about, it is the fact that my sinuses get all worked up when I smell smoke. I sneeze almost nonstop then I get runny nose which is very annoying. I believe I am allergic to cigarette or tobacco smoke. Or it could be just a psychological reaction. I honestly do not know. So when one of the husband’s friends showed up one day with a pack of gurkha evil I stayed as far away as possible. I do not want the person to think I abhor his smell, lol. The husband knows about it which is one of the reason why he quit smoking. To think he never really did smoke inside the house and was rarely near me when he did. It was a good thing though and I am seriously hoping he will not go back to it like he promised. I do hope too that I will not get all worked up over cigarette or tobacco smoke because it is embarrassing to sneeze around other people.

A few days ago I was so down that the whole day I did nothing but be morose. I wanted to crawl under a rock and stay there until I was ready to get out. It was that horrible. The husband knew what I was feeling and he did try to entertain the little man so he will not bother me much. I wanted some pampering but it is hard to do with two active kids. I would have been happy had the husband surprised me with chocolate Anniversary gifts for her or for me regardless if it was not our anniversary. I wanted something done to pull me out of my mood but it did not happen so when night time came I felt relieved. I thought and hoped that maybe the next day I will feel better which I did. It is surprising what a little bit of sleep can do to a person. I have been feeling pretty good ever since and I hope it will stay that way.

A few days ago, I scattered seeds on a tub. The seeds are of my favorite vegetables, napa cabbage and bok choy. The husband ordered the seeds online for me. I did not expect the seeds to come up so early. Too early that I don’t have a garden spot yet. It will be a problem because I need help on that. Because of my eagerness to see seedlings I forgot the fact that I don’t even have a spot picked out for a garden. Sigh! I might have to start with planting them on pots. The problem is I actually spread a lot of seeds and it looks like every one of them is coming up. Yay for green thumb! But boo for being unprepared. I might hear a lecture or two in the next few days. I guess I better be prepared.

My five year old son is into pretend play. With a limitless imagination like any five year old, he never runs out of ideas. One day he was surfing in the waves, running from one end of the house to the next trying to “balance” so he will not get knocked out of his board. The next day he was in a cave, under the center table with all my cushions and pillows piled up on top. Or he could be a rockstar, or an engineer building houses and planning garages and contemplating on digging a moat around his house. It is fun just to listen to him with his monologue although I must admit it is not fun to clean up after his mess when he gets really involved with something that requires a furniture or sheets or pillows. I know that this phase will pass and I might even miss it once he gets older and denies ever doing the things I have written on my blogs about him, lol. Life with kids is never dull, that much I can say.

We are staying in the house we bought while construction is going on around it. In fact, we are halfway moved in. Halfway because half of our stuff is already in the new house and there will be more to come as we are going to bring another trailer load of our belongings here. About two thirds of the house is finished so it is a lot easier for us to move around the house without tripping over a tool. Since we have working appliances in the house already, we really feel at home here regardless that work still needs to be done in some areas. Yesterday we loaded the fridge with a lot of food because the husband said he needs to eat since he is losing weight. I don’t need to eat more because I have not lost any weight but hey I was at the store and he told me to buy whatever I wanted so I took advantage of that offer. The result? The fridge is full and most of it is my choice of food. I just know that in a week or two I will be surfing the internet again for the best diet pills available. Provided I can afford it or that the husband will allow me to take it. I do have a big problem, I cannot seem to stop eating. I could blame him for this claiming he provides me with too much food but I know I only have myself to blame. But as always, let me worry about weight gain on my next post. For now let me enjoy the food that we bought.
