demolition derby

December 31st, 2008

The husband and I got to talking the other day and it lead to him admitting to me how he used to join demolition derbies when he was younger. I do not have any idea he was once active in what I consider a dangerous sport. I thought he was busy helping his parents raise his younger siblings and the fact that he married young was reason enough for me to believe he lived a dull life before me. Or so I thought. Well, he told me all about his past time and how he enjoyed it and how he won trophies and how people did a standing ovation once because he rammed a car (I forgot the make) and got out unscathed. I thought that was dangerous and reckless buthe said it was fun. I wouldn’t have thought of my responsible husband to be reckless in his youth, lol. He even said before he owned a car he had a bike and that was what he drove anywhere even in the middle of winter. But he has tamed down a lot. He doesn’t have a bike for one. And he doesn’t do derbies anymore. Aside from the fact that he is older, I would have stopped him anyway. I wonder why he is opposed to his son buying a big bike though. I mean, the son is about the age when the father owned a bike once long ago. He just said it is not safe in the road and being young, his son is ruled by hormones which is not good at all on the road. I guess he is right. Besides, sometimes, fathers know best.

long weekend

December 30th, 2008

Our holiday weekend was spent in Orlando, Florida. It was almost a spur of the moment thing. Almost because the husband reserved our room on Christmas day before we went to his daughter’s house for dinner. He even offered her and her family to go with us with him paying for their accommodation but she declined and so he gave her cash instead as their Christmas presents. We had a good time during our trip. The husband and I enjoyed visiting theme parks more than the little man, lol. We were like kids while the little man looked at us probably wondering what was the matter with his parents. It was fun. The drive to Orlando was quick and safe except for an episode where a huge truck decided to change lanes abruptly in front of us. I was nervous as hell and if not for the husband being alert I don’t know what would have happened. That driver needs to be apprehended or whatever the police have to do because he changed lanes when he was supposed to stay in the right lane at all times. I was shaken because he was really close. It made me think about searching for free online life insurance quotes when we got to the motel. Thankfully, the husband was alert and did not panic. If I was driving I probably would have rear-ended the truck and who knows what would have happened. I am starting to think that the husband is right when he said I am not cut to drive. I panic and it is one emotion you are nor supposed to have when you are on the road. One has to have the presence of mind to make quick decisions. But anyway, we are home safe and we had a good time. We plan on going back maybe in a year or two when the little man is old enough to enjoy rides. I am already looking forward to it.

our christmas tree

Our tree is finally up. When the husband got home last night he decided to put the tree up and so I helped him and this is the result. I did not want the candy cane but he likes it so he said it will look more christmasy. The gifts were added just this afternoon after we wrapped every presents for the kids. Notice the socks hanging in the tree? The husband wanted me to wrap it for his son and I did not do it. I told him to just hang it in the tree which he did :D   More than half of the presents are for the little man.

his Christmas present

December 23rd, 2008

The husband called just a few minutes ago telling me that he already thought about what to give himself this Christmas. Take note the gift is not from anybody but himself. I still have not figured what to give him because he is so picky and will not help me decide what to give him. But anyway, he called and said as a present to himself he transferred money from our checking account to our stock market account. He had stopped doing it a few weeks back because we are trying to save and I have been reminding him not to. But since it is Christmas, I did not say anything and just let him do what he wants. It is his reward for the whole year of back breaking hard work. The stock market may be crappy but I have faith in his judgement. And as long as he is happy I am behind him all the way. Now, do you think I still have to get him anything? I sure am a lousy wife when it comes to gift giving. I believe more in doing things that makes him happy than giving him material gifts. Or maybe it is just an excuse for me not buying him a present?

it’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas :)

December 22nd, 2008

After several warm days, the south is back to being cold and windy. If we enjoyed going out this past weekend, I sure do not want to even go check the laundry room for the clothes I put in the dryer. It is cold! If we used the AC for days, now the heater is in full blast kicking off every few minutes. And the little man who loves the cold has feet as cold as ice. I want to go back and curl up in bed if only he will stay in there with me but I doubt it. He is here yelling at me for reasons unknown to me. It may have something to do with the promise I made him earlier. Whatever it is, I intend to know when I get done checking my mails and other important sites. I am here checking about PS2 when I don’t even know how to use it. And I don’t think the stepson will want to have this for Christmas. So it makes no sense why I am doing this right? It must be the cold, lol. I have to get offline and spend more time with the little man. Perhaps I will bundle him up so he will not get cold. Only a few more days until Christmas. Are you done with your shopping yet? I think we are though we are still thinking what to do or where to go for the long weekend.

lazy Saturday

December 20th, 2008

Today was a lazy day for us. We went to the beach to walk two miles. We did not brisk walk because we let the little man walk with us. Thankfully he did not give us any problem. He was good and walked with us without stopping or running off. We then went to eat lunch at Applebee’s which luckily was already open at twelve. We had lunch and then we went home to take naps. We thought about going to the store but decided against it. We will probably do it tomorrow along with another last minute shopping for presents for the little man and the grand kids. And maybe for the big kids. We have not decided what to give to the older kids and we only have a few days to think about it. And just like previous Christmases, I don’t know what to give the husband who is likely not to get anything at all. I am a bad wife, eh? Maybe the kids will think of something. It is hard to look for something for somebody who claims he already has everything he wants. Perhaps if I will pray hard enough for him to win the lottery it will be the most unexpected present of all. Maybe I will just get him a card when I get the chance.

extended Christmas shopping

December 17th, 2008

I thought we are done with our Christmas shopping but when I found talking watches when I surfed online, I think about buying one each for my younger nieces in the Philippines. Those kids rarely receive gifts from anybody except their parents and my own parents (their Godparents). I have been sending them goodies too when we send boxes to my parents and the way my mother described their reaction is more than enough compensation for all the trouble we had looking for specific gifts for them. We feel good when every little thing we gave them were appreciated. There is nothing better to hear than a child’s enthusiastic thank you over the phone. This presents will have to wait until next year to get there but I know the response I will get will be the same.

we need our hair cut

December 16th, 2008

I have been thinking of cutting the little man’s hair. We have a clipper here I can use but I am afraid of his reaction when I do. I figured I may need help from the husband and plan on doing it this weekend. Which reminds me, I also need a haircut. My hair is too long and it takes forever to dry. Keeping it clean and neat is a lot of hard work. And that is not an exaggeration. I thought about letting the husband use the clipper on me too. See what I will look like afterwards, lol. But since it is cold yet, it will not be feasible for now.

Anyway, it is almost Christmas. And it is almost my birthday. Wonder what we are going to do during the holidays. I don’t aim to get presents or anything, I just wish for good health and happiness for my family. And, yes, more blessings.
