swapped

February 22nd, 2009

Went to the Flea market yesterday and brought my books to fulfill I promise I made to the guy who sells books there. I told him one weekend I have plenty of books and he said I can bring it over and we will swap. So I did. He gave me ten books for the fifteen that I brought over. Not bad eh? Actually better than just keeping the books and buying more online or on stores. Now I have ten books waiting for me to read. That does not include the four paperbacks I ordered online a week ago which got here last Friday. That is a lot of book for me to read for the next week or two when I have the time. Between taking care of the husband and the little man, I hope to still find time to read. At least this way I will not have free time to think about anything else.

two sides in a circle

February 16th, 2009

When I was in college, one of the things we did to wait for our next subject was to hang out in the lab. We spend hours everyday in that room talking and gossiping and, I must admit, boy watching :D I had a gay friend (who turned out to be straight since he got married before graduation, go figure) who had crushes on a few of our fellow engineering students and I was his partner in waiting for his crushes to pass by the lab. Sometimes one of our instructors (the dirty-old-man, lol) stayed in the room with us and talk just about anything. He wanted to impress us with things he knew may it have something to do with the subjects we were taking or things he learned from other people. One day while we were hanging out he started drawing figures in the board and asked questions like how many sides are there in a square, triangle, and so on until he drew a circle and asked how many sides it had. The sane classmates said there are no sides which made sense since it was a circle after all. I knew the answer because I have read it somewhere though I could not remember where anymore. I said there are two sides in a circle and he laughed so hard and said Okay, smarta** why did you say that. I then said there are two sides in a circle, the in-side and the out-side. Our classmates laughed too and thought I was smart, lol. I had to be honest and told them I read it a few days prior to that incident that’s why I knew. If I had not, I would not know the answer at all. You see, it pays to read, sometimes.

he wants a laptop

February 10th, 2009

When I talked to my younger brother the other day, he asked me if I could buy him a laptop. He claimed he needs one for work and since he could not afford it yet he wants me to buy the computer for him. Well, much as I want to, I could not give him this one. I am broke! Lol. I can’t afford a computer right now because it is expensive. Although I have a spare laptop I can’t give it to him either because I need it in case this old computer I am using right now will quit working. I will go crazy if I don’t get online. I know I don’t need to check on wholesale electronics site to find a laptop for him but at the moment I would rather not even look since it will be useless anyway. How I wish I have the money to buy him what he wants but I don’t. Besides, the laptop will have to be plugged in a 110 outlet which is not what they are using in the Philippines. They are using 220 outlet there and he will have to use a converter to make it work. Perhaps I will save enough and buy him one when we get to visit.

i finally saw her

February 6th, 2009

My phone rang at 4am this morning and I was still half asleep when I answered it. The caller was my brother who promised the other day he will get online so I can see him and his family. Talk about early! We talked for a good while courtesy of yahoo messenger’s voice chat. I saw his daughter who for some reason looks more like me than anybody else, lol. My niece Aliyah is only seven months old but is big for her age. She kept on making noise and laughing while she was sitting on her father’s lap. She really is a happy baby. She made faces and showed her toothless gums. She is so cute. Now I know why my parents love her so much. They told me that she looks like the little man but when I saw her on cam she actually looks like I did when I was her age. The features were mine all along. The eyes and the nose, lol. Funny how my genes showed up in her while Mamsy’s is evident on my little boy. My brother wanted to see the little man but it was four am and he was still curled up in bed asleep. I did not have the heart to wake him up. Even the husband (who has difficulty getting up and about right now) did not bother to get up and I understand him. I told them to get online again and this time to consider the time difference so everybody is still up. I am glad they are all doing good and they take the time to go to the internet cafe so we can see each other on camera. I am already thinking what dresses to buy for the little girl. Now if I only have the money to act on it. I guess this will fall on all plans and no work category :D

so cold

February 5th, 2009

It is so cold in the south right now. This morning the temperature is only 20 degrees. Yesterday was about the same while I was doing the laundry. The laundry room is outside so it was really a pain having to get out in the cold like that. I long for the electric blanket that the sister in law gave me when we were up in Indiana. I thought I will not have to use it here so I left it in our house and told her to give it to somebody who might be able to use it. In our three years in the south this is the first time it got cold like this considering it is almost Spring. I do not want to get out of the cover and I am always wearing jacket and jeans and socks inside the house. Even the husband who is used to the cold complains about it. He keeps himself warm by turning the portable electric heater on and sitting in front of it for a few minutes at a time. Our electric bill will probably be through the roof again this month. Hays, all I want is a little warmth.

on news and celebrities

February 1st, 2009

I love to read online news from the Philippines every single day. No, I don’t read the headline news, just the gossip :D Since I only watch my favorite series daily I decided to read the celebrity news to keep me updated of new shows or movies. The other day I read that two well-known celebrities Anne Curtis and Angelica Panganiban are the new endorsers of Swatch watches which is not surprising since Swatch always chose pretty women with style and beauty ever since I can remember. I used to love watching their commercials too because it was catchy and bubbly instead of the usual boring commercials for watches and the like. I remember I even wanted to have a Swatch watch when I was a kid but the price was way over my parent’s league. It was pretty much the watches that people with money buy. I love their colorful designs and playful look. Perhaps one day I will buy one, if not for me then for my little girl if we get lucky to have one.

up and about

February 1st, 2009

We are up early today, the little man and I. I did not have plans on getting up early but he climbed up on our bed and started fidgeting and kicking me off the bed so I told him we will get up. He then got up grinning and he is here watching the Wiggles and dancing very early in the morning :) I don’t know why he won’t get up and stay in the living room alone. He has to drag me all the time when all I want is to sleep until I am ready to get up especially on a cold weekend. The husband is still asleep and I doubt if he knows we are already up and about. I already gave the little man a cup of milk which he drank greedily, lol. I just hope he will take his nap today since he woke up early. Anyway, I called my parents last night and we had a nice talk. They were grateful for the balikbayan box we sent even if it took months for it to get there. And for people who do not like to eat canned goods, they were amazed of the Spam we sent. We wanted to let them try the product and see if they will like it. If not, I told them to give it to the neighbors. Well, they told me last night they are keeping the remaining two cans of Spam. I am glad they were happy with the contents of the box even if none was expensive.
